Authority figures move around, so treat them as a snapshot rather than gospel. Check any site yourself with whatever authority checker you already use before spending an hour on it.

  1. Step 01

    Filter by type

    Pick five to ten types that fit your niche. A dev tool wants github.com and dev.to, not a photo site.

  2. Step 02

    Check the DR

    Sort roughly high to low and start at the top. Higher authority passes more weight even on a nofollow page.

  3. Step 03

    Sign up and verify

    Register with a real email, confirm it, then fill the bio out properly before adding your link.

  4. Step 04

    Space them out

    Five a day beats thirty in one sitting. Vary the wording so the profiles don't read as copy-paste.

Judging value (03)

Is a free site worth the effort?

Not every entry on this page is worth thirty minutes of your time. Weigh the authority against how long the signup form takes. A DR 95 site with a two-field form is an easy yes. A DR 80 site that wants a photo, a phone number and a review period is a maybe.

Follow status matters less than people think. A nofollow link from a real, indexed profile still sends a signal and occasionally real traffic, which a follow link on a dead page never will.

Watch for sites that require a paid tier to keep the profile public. Some free plans hide or delete inactive profiles after a few months, which wipes out the link along with it.

Track what you built in a sheet, or let the software do the checking. Either way you want to know when a page disappears, and it will.

A handful across relevant sites, built properly, is a normal part of a link profile. Thirty in one afternoon on unrelated sites is not.
Should I use the same password everywhere?+
No. Use a password manager. Ninety accounts sharing one password is a bigger risk than the links are worth.
What if a site asks for payment to keep the link live?+
Treat it as a paid link, not a free one, and decide on its own merits. Most of the entries above stay free indefinitely.
